FAQs about ORCID and ResearcherID

ORCID stands for ‘Open Researcher and Contributor ID’ and is an alpha numeric code that is used to uniquely identify the authors of scientific works. You can register in order to get an ORCID. You can also apply for a ResearcherID by registering via Web of Science (WoS). The ORCID and ResearcherID can be linked to each other.

After registering, you will receive a 16-figure code, the ORCID. An ORCID can be used when submitting manuscripts, for example. Additional professional information can be added to an ORCID, such as links to other researcher identifiers like ResearcherID or LinkedIN.

A ResearcherID may be applied for as a result of registering via Web of Science (WoS), top-right Sign In, 2nd option Register). Once you have registered into and logged onto WoS, you can choose My Tools -> third option ResearcherID. Additional data may be entered here.

Linking ORCID and ResearcherID: in My Researcher Profile, the option is ORCID: Get or associate an ORCID. The second option may then be selected: “I already have an ORCID account”. It is then possible to edit data between ResearcherID and ORCID in both directions (Profile Data, Send ResearcherID publications to my ORCID account, Retrieve ORCID publications into my ResearcherID account).
